NORTH COUNTY, CA (September 22, 2021) – Saturday, a pedestrian died in a crash on Interstate 5 and Basilone Road.
 
The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. when several vehicles hit a pedestrian. According to reports, the incident occurred on Interstate 5, south of Basilone Road, near San Onofre State Beach.
 
CHP Officer Hunter Gerber said that a Toyota Corolla first hit the pedestrian as he walked in the northbound lanes. Then, other vehicles struck him, leaving him with fatal injuries.
 
At this time, the authorities haven’t disclosed the identity of the pedestrian.
 
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old passenger in the Toyota sustained major injuries. Thus, responders took the patient to a hospital for treatment, and was expected to survive.
 
On the other hand, the 47-year-old female driver suffered no injuries.
 
At this time, the authorities haven’t determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
