1 Dead in Merced Pedestrian Accident on East Childs Avenue and Watertown Drive
MERCED, CA (August 18, 2021) – Early Monday, a pedestrian died in a hit-and-run crash on East Childs Avenue and Watertown Drive.
The officers came to the scene just before 1:00 a.m. Moreover, the incident happened at East Childs Avenue and Watertown Drive.
According to Sgt. Leone Pintabona, a passing motorist noticed a man lying in the road near Golden Valley High.
When the officers arrived, they located the pedestrian. Then, medical personnel attempted to save his life. However, the pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.
The police confirmed that a 22-year-old man driving a 2004 Mercedes traveled east on East Childs Avenue. Then, the vehicle struck the 43-year-old pedestrian walking in the roadway.
Initially, the involved driver fled the scene before he came back around 15 minutes later. Moreover, the driver didn’t show signs of intoxication and has been cooperative with the police.
Also, the authorities arrested him on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. He was also cited and released due to booking protocols at the jail.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continue to investigate the crash.
