Geoffrey William Bicking Arrested after Suspected DUI Crash near West 15th Street
SANTA ANA, CA (December 6, 2018) – A woman was killed Thursday morning following a chain-reaction crash on North Main Street. The name of the 31-year-old victim is being withheld, pending positive identification and family notification.
According to the Santa Ana Police Department, the incident happened near West 15th Street, at about 10:00 AM. A Chevy Malibu was traveling southbound when it rear-ended a white Ford Ranger.
The impact of the collision caused the pickup truck to spin out of control and hit a third vehicle. Meanwhile, the Malibu struck a palm tree before hitting the victim who was waiting at a bus stop.
The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital after suffering critical injuries. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff. The three drivers involved in the crash complained of pain but did not require hospitalization.
Authorities later confirmed that the driver of the Malibu, identified as 45-year-old Geoffrey William Bicking of Buena Park, was under the influence of drugs at the time of the wreck. He was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. Additional criminal charges, such as manslaughter, could be filed later.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash and to identify other possible contributing factors. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the investigators as soon as possible. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
