Fatal Crash on 70th Avenue East Shuts Northbound Interstate 5 near Fife

Tacoma, WA (May 7, 2021) – Early Friday morning, a pedestrian died after being struck by two vehicles just north of 70th Avenue East.

The Tacoma fatal crash happened at about 3:50 a.m. on May 7.

According to WSDOT reports, two serious collisions near Fife have shut down northbound Interstate 5 and caused massive traffic backups after a pedestrian was struck north of 70th Avenue East.

That incident created a slowdown. Shortly afterward, a semi-trailer was unable to stop in time for traffic at 54th Avenue East and struck the rear of another semi-truck, which then pushed into a third semi-truck, thus, created a chain reaction.

Moreover, one of the semi-trailers, fully loaded with milk and cream, spilled all over the northbound lanes.

Another semi carried 30,000 pounds of fish that must be reloaded onto another truck and hauled away. Also, a diesel fuel spill from one of the semi-trailers.

Furthermore, crews remain on scene cleaning up debris and spilled milk and cream. Authorities reopened the northbound lanes after an hours-long shutdown.

Police have yet to release the pedestrian’s identity.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased victim.
