80-year-old Man Struck and Injured by Uber Driver in Laguna Beach

LAGUNA BEACH, CA (February 16, 2019) – An 80-year-old man sustained severe injuries after being hit by an Uber driver on the South Coast Highway just before 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

According to Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Jim Cota, the driver struck the pedestrian while he was crossing Mountain Road in a crosswalk. He was taken to Mission Hospital – Mission Viejo by ambulance in grave condition. His name is still unreleased.

The pedestrian accident resulted in a prolonged road closure Wednesday night while the police conducted their investigation. The police confirmed that traffic on southbound South Coast Highway was reduced to one lane until after 11 p.m.
