Long Beach Man Arrested after Pedestrian Crash near Freeman Avenue
SIGNAL HILL, CA (January 11, 2019) – A Long Beach man was seriously injured early Friday morning following a hit-and-run collision on Pacific Coast Highway. The identity of the 49-year-old victim was not immediately disclosed to the public.
According to the Signal Hill Police Department, the incident happened near Freeman Avenue, at about 12:22 AM. A pedestrian was crossing in an unmarked crosswalk when he was struck by a westbound Ford Windstar minivan.
The victim was transported to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center with severe injuries. Further updates on his current medical condition were not provided.
The Ford driver, described as a Long Beach man in his 20s, did not stay to render aid and immediately fled the area. He was later taken into custody in the 1400 block of Hile Avenue and booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. The suspect is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision and to identify other possible contributing factors. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
