The Los Angeles police said the crash occurred in a crosswalk in the Vermont Square area of South Los Angeles at about 6:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The driver was apparently attempting to make a left turn at what was a busy intersection before the incident happened.
The car had a broken windshield as a result. It came to a stop in an area marked off by a crime scene tape.
Emergency responders transported the unidentified 50-year-old patient to a local hospital in critical condition.
On the other hand, the driver attempted to flee the scene after hitting the pedestrian but was followed by a witness. The officers located and took the suspect into custody on suspicion of DUI.
