Man Hospitalized after Struck by Car at Delaware Street

MERCED, CA (June  19, 2018) – On Tuesday evening, a male pedestrian was struck and injured by a car in an accident on R Street, in central Merced.

According to Sgt Dan Dabney, the pedestrian collision took place at the intersection of R Street and Main Street, around 9:45 PM. The unidentified man was crossing R St eastbound at Main within a designated crosswalk.

Several vehicles in the area slowed down as the man walked across the intersection against the light. A man driving a Honda sedan did not see the pedestrian when he stepped in front of his car, and struck the pedestrian. It is believed that the pedestrian was drinking before the collision.

He suffered serious injuries to the face and head. There is no update on his current medical condition. The identities of the parties involved in this collision were not immediately released to the public.

No additional information is available at this time, as police officials continue to investigate.
