Man Hospitalized after Hit by Sedan in Adelanto
ADELANTO, CA (April 11, 2019) – A male pedestrian was struck on Highway 395 Tuesday evening. His name has not yet been given.
According to reports, the collision occurred just north of Palmdale Road. Dispatchers arrived to the area after receiving multiple calls about the accident.
A witness told officers the pedestrian was first seen crossing from the east lanes to the west lanes, leaving Panda Express. He was allegedly walking back to a tractor-trailer across the highway, about 200 feet away from the crosswalk. He was then struck by a white Toyota Yaris.
The man was found responsive and alert when officials arrived at the scene. He was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center by ground ambulance as a precaution.
The female driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and cooperated with deputies. She and the other occupant of the Yaris, her son, were unharmed. Witnesses said the car was traveling at about 40 miles per hour when the crash occurred.
Captain Torres said the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene. Responding with them are Medic Engine 311 and 313 from the Victorville Fire Department, as well as battalion chief 4311 and AMR.
Although the jurisdiction of the crash was in Adelanto, Victorville Fire provided mutual aid to Adelanto which is typically serviced by San Bernardino County Fire. Northbound Highway 395 was temporarily closed while debris was cleared from the road.
