Man Walking across Stanislaus River Fatally Struck by Amtrak Train near River Cove Drive
RIVERBANK, CA (July 19, 2019) – An Amtrak train struck and killed a pedestrian near River Cove Drive, Friday afternoon. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened on the railroad bridge across the Stanislaus River, at about 4:00 PM. The victim was walking along the tracks with a woman when the northbound train hit him.
Emergency responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Meanwhile, his companion remained and cooperated with investigators.
Authorities continue to investigate the fatal incident, ruling out foul play and suicide as factors. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
