49-Year-Old Man Killed in San Diego Pedestrian Crash on Rosecrans Street near Midway Drive

SAN DIEGO, CA (March 18, 2020) – Late Monday afternoon, a 49-year-old male pedestrian was fatally struck by an SUV on Rosecrans Street.

According to San Diego Police, the collision happened just after 3:55 p.m. Dispatchers arrived at the intersection of Rosecrans Street and Midway Drive shortly after.

Reports indicate that a 41-year-old woman was driving a 2018 Mazda CX5 south on Rosecrans Street while the 49-year-old man walked across Midway Drive. There, the SUV then struck the victim.

Paramedics later took the pedestrian to a hospital after suffering a skull fracture, a laceration to the back of his head and a fractured right ankle. He was later pronounced dead due to the extent of his condition.

Moreover, officers say the pedestrian reportedly violated a red “no crossing” light.

Meanwhile, the female driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with officials. The authorities also ruled out intoxication as a factor in the collision.

The surrounding area on Rosecrans Street was closed off for a brief time during preliminary duties. However, the roadway has since reopened to traffic.
