San Diego Police Vehicle Involved in Fatal Pedestrian Collision near Franklin Avenue
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 3, 2018) – On Monday evening, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a San Diego Police car on 47th Street. The deceased victim’s name and place of residence were not yet released by the authorities, pending notification of next of kin.
A report from the California Highway Patrol stated that the accident happened just before 8:00 PM near the intersection of Franklin Avenue.
The San Diego Police Department said the patrol car was headed northbound toward Franklin when it hit the pedestrian who was crossing from west to east, outside of a crosswalk. The officer immediately turned on the SUV’s emergency lights, pulled over and checked on the victim.
The injured pedestrian was rushed to the hospital for treatment. He died hours later due to severe injuries.
Police had 47th Street blocked off from Imperial Avenue to Ocean View Boulevard while they investigated the crash. No other information was available.
