Pedestrian Killed after San Diego Hit-and-Run Accident on Grand Avenue
SAN DIEGO, CA (August 6, 2019) – AA pedestrian died following a hit-and-run crash on Grand Avenue off-ramp from the 5 Freeway on Sunday, August 4.
The accident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on the Grand Avenue off-ramp from northbound 5 Freeway. Witnesses told California Highway Patrol officers the impact threw the male pedestrian into the air. Then the pedestrian landed in the right shoulder. Paramedics transported him to Scripps Hospital La Jolla, where he later died.
The vehicle that struck the pedestrian fled the scene and reports describe it as a white Volkswagen Passat. Officials later found it parked around the corner from a house in a Clairemont Mesa neighborhood.
A CHP dispatcher said officers contacted someone at the residence but wouldn’t open the door. They eventually took the person into custody. However, officers were not certain whether the person being held was the car’s driver.
