Pedestrian Killed, Eliseo Martinez Arrested in Bakersfield Collision
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 13, 2019) – CHP officers arrested a man after an alleged DUI hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian on Monday, February 11.
The accident occurred on Edison Highway, east of East California Avenue shortly after 7 p.m.
According to CHP, the victim was outside of a crosswalk and was in the number 2 lane when struck by the motorist. The driver was moving westbound at about 40 to 50 mph in a Mercury Grand Marquis.
The initial investigation by CHP determined that Martinez drove away immediately after the collision but then returned to the scene a short time after. The pedestrian died at the scene and the driver was not injured.
CHP later conducted a DUI investigation on the male driver and he was arrested for DUI. He was later identified as 28-year-old Eliseo Martinez, of Bakersfield.
The pedestrian’s identity was not immediately determined.
