Tragic Pedestrian Crash on Highway 178 Kills 61-Year-Old Man [Bakersfield, CA]

Bakersfield, CA (July 6, 2024) On Thursday evening, a 61-year-old man was killed in a tragic pedestrian crash on Highway 178.

According to the CHP, the fatal auto-pedestrian collision happened around 9:04 p.m. on westbound Highway 178, east of Beale Avenue.

Reports say that a vehicle, driven by a 29-year-old Bakersfield man, struck the male pedestrian.

Officials say that the driver was unable to avoid to avoid hitting the pedestrian. Officials pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Authorities say that the drive stayed at the scene and cooperated with officials.

CHP is investigating the fatal auto-pedestrian crash and have not released additional information at this time.
