Good Samaritan Dies in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash on I-880 Off-Ramp
Fremont, CA (May 15, 2023) On Sunday morning, a pedestrian accident on Interstate 880 off-ramp to Highway 262 left a woman dead.
According to the CHP, the fatal hit-and-run crash happened at around 2:40 a.m. on the northbound I-880 off-ramp.
Reports say that a solo car crash happened at the off-ramp, where a disabled Chevy was blocking the lanes of the off-ramp. A Mitsubishi with a male driver and a female passenger stopped to assist the disabled vehicle driver.
Officials say that the Samaritans assisted in getting the Chevy to the shoulder and had their vehicle parked behind the Chevy.
As the female passenger was standing between the Mitsubishi and Chevy, a male driver on a Ford F150 veered into the shoulder and struck the Mitsubishi from behind. The impact of the collision sent the Mitsubishi to fatally struck the female passenger.
Authorities say that the driver of the F150 fled the scene and is currently at large at the moment.
Meanwhile, CHP arrested the Chevy driver for possible DUI. Officials are investigating the fatal hit-and-run crash and have not released further information at this time.
