Joshua Williams and Marcus Campbell Arrested for Deadly Highland Police Chase Crash
HIGHLAND, CA (March 29, 2021) – Saturday night, 58-year-old Paulette Samuel of Highland died in a pursuit crash on Victoria Avenue and Pacific Street.
Deputies responded to the 25300 block of Baseline Street at around 6:20 p.m. after reports of two people in a Honda sedan with a firearm. Then, a nearby deputy approached the suspects.
However, the suspects didn’t cooperate and fled at high speed, leading to a pursuit. Shortly after, authorities stopped the pursuit after a deputy was involved in a collision at Del Rosa Avenue and Pacific Street.
Then, the suspect continued speeding at speeds of 80 to 100 mph. They threw a handgun and ammunition near a residence in the 25500 block of Pacific Street. Authorities found a fired cartridge and a bullet hit a residence.
Then, the suspect approached the intersection of Victoria Avenue despite a red light. Afterward, he crashed with a northbound 2005 Suzuki sedan on Victoria Avenue.
After the second crash, the suspects tried to flee on foot. However, the deputies who responded to the second crash managed to apprehend them.
As a result of the crash, responders transported Paulette Samuel to St. Bernardine Medical Center. However, she later succumbed to her injuries.
Meanwhile, 27-year-old Joshua Williams from San Bernardino and his 35-year-old passenger Marcus Johnathan Campbell of Barstow were arrested.
Authorities detained them on suspicion of charges including murder, evading a peace officer, negligent discharge of a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The authorities continue to investigate the deadly Highland crash.
