Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash near Frank Cox Road in Patterson
PATTERSON, CA (March 29, 2019) – One person was killed following a hit-and-run crash Friday afternoon in Patterson, authorities said.
The fatal crash happened just before 2:00 p.m., on Highway 33. Dispatchers arrived near Frank Cox Road soon after.
According to authorities, a white Ford van was approaching the intersection at Frank Cox Road when a Chevrolet Tahoe made an abrupt left turn. This forced the Ford to swerve to avoid colliding with the Chevy.
The Ford then struck a nearby pole, causing fatal injuries to the driver. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released to the public.
The Chevrolet Tahoe was identified with custom rims and a slight lift. However, its driver reportedly fled the scene without rendering aid.
State officials considered the incident a ‘noncontact’ hit-and-run. Although there was no contact between the two vehicles, the Chevrolet driver forced the driver of the Ford to react.
Officers believe the vehicle may currently be in the Patterson/Westley area, however they are not sure. The investigation is still ongoing to eventually determine liability. No further information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
Anyone with information on the vehicle and/or driver is encouraged to contact the CHP’s non-emergency line at (209) 356-2900.
