1 Person Dead in Oakland Wrong-Way Accident on Interstate 580 and MacArthur Maze
OAKLAND, CA (March 20, 2024) – Tuesday morning, authorities arrested Patrick Sheckells and Andre Alberty after a fatal crash on Interstate 580.
The incident started at around 4:20 a.m. when officers started a pursuit against a pickup that was involved in a burglary at the Tobacco Outlet on San Pablo Avenue.
According to reports, officers attempted to pull over the suspect vehicle, but to no avail. Then, authorities said that the suspect vehicle changed direction and began to drive the wrong way on westbound I-580. Also, officers confirmed that the suspect driver ended in a crash with two westbound vehicles.
Moreover, officers confirmed that the driver of a BMW died in the crash. Then, paramedics transported the two occupants of the suspect vehicle and the driver of a white van, to a hospital, all with major injuries.
Furthermore, officers arrested the two occupants of the suspect vehicle, 34-year-old Sheckells of Oakland and the passenger, 56-year-old Alberty of San Francisco.
Meanwhile, the crash closed three westbound lanes where I-580 merges into I-80 on the approach to the Bay Bridge.
At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
Due to limited information, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
