30-Year-Old Wheat Ridge Man Fatally Injured in Semi Accident on Highway 18 Near Issaquah-Hobart Road Exit
ISSAQUAH, WA (February 5, 2018) – A man was fatally injured when hitting a semi-truck head-on, around 4:38 PM on Monday afternoon, on State Route 18 near mile post 21.
The man was identified as 30-year-old Wheat Ridge, Colorado man, Patrick Saylor. According to witnesses, he was driving a Dodge east on Highway 18 just east of the Issaquah-Hobart Road exit, when he veered across the center line into oncoming traffic, and crashed into a semi.
Saylor was pronounced dead at the scene of the head-on collision. The driver of the semi-truck was a 40-year-old man from Greensburg, Indiana, Wade Denley. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to the Swedish Hospital for treatment.
State Route 18 was shut down in both directions for more than six hours, until reopening around 11 PM. Trooper Rick Johnson stated that there was a lot of debris on the road, as well as diesel, which made it slippery and dangerous to drive on. The State Department of Transportation arrived at the scene for cleanup, as well as officials to investigate the fatal crash and find out why Saylor crossed over into oncoming traffic.
Sincere sympathies to the family and loved ones of Patrick Saylor.
