Phoenix Couple Patricia Beitzinger and Neal Baltz Among Boat Fire Victims In Santa Barbara County
SANTA BARBARA, CA (September 2, 2019) – After the diving boat fire early Monday near Santa Cruz Island, police identified one fatal victim as Patricia Beitzinger.
According to Michael Pierce, Beitzinger is the viticulture and oenology director at Yavapai College. In addition, her and her boyfriend Neal Baltz, who lived in Phoenix, both loved the outdoors and taking trips together.
Based reports, flames engulfed the diving vessel Conception in the predawn hours of Labor Day off the coast of Southern California. 39 people, including six crew members, were on board during the accident. Five crew members escaped the fire, but 34 did not make it. As of Wednesday, search teams recovered 33 bodies. However, one is still missing.
The other victims are identified as: Neal Baltz, Charles Mcllvain, Allie Kurtz, Scott Chan, Kendra Chan, Berenice Felipe, Tia Salika, Steve Salika, and Diana Adamic. In addition, police identified Evan Quitasol, Nicole Quitasol, Angela Quitasol, Fernisa Sison, Michael Quitasol, Kristy Finstad, Marybeth Guiney, and Lisa Fiedler. Police have not released the identities of the remaining victims.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
