Passengers Killed in Arlington Avenue DUI Crash [Los Angeles, CA]

Los Angeles, CA (March 29, 2024) – Two passengers lost their lives following an Arlington Avenue DUI crash before Thursday noon.

The fatal attempted hit-and-run crash happened on 29th Street in Jefferson Park.

Officers said a man was driving a southbound black BMW sedan on Arlington Avenue at a high rate of speed. The BMW rear-ended a parked UPS truck sending the sedan airborne where it crashed into multiple northbound cars traveling. The BMW also crashed into other vehicles parked on the street.  

A female in the front passenger and a male passenger in the backseat were both thrown out of the BMW.  

Los Angeles Fire Department medical crew declared both victims deceased at the crash scene.  

Witnesses said the BMW driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Some of the witnesses followed him and called 911.

The authorities later captured the suspect and took him into custody without incident blocks away. The medical team rushed the driver to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. 

Footage of the aftermath displayed the top of the BMW almost totally ripped from vehicle’s frame and there was a crater-sized dent in backend of the UPS truck. Several other cars struck also incurred heavy damage.

Troopers are still investigating this major collision and police will need time to review surveillance footage of the incident collected from nearby homes.

“Based on what we’re seeing behind us, that kind of damage with the narcotics possibly involved, this looks like a charge for two counts of murder possibly,” Det. Ryan Moreno said.
