Officers Arrest Drivers in Thurston County Traffic Collision

Thurston County, WA (September 14, 2022) – At about 2 a.m. on Monday, people sustained injuries while two drivers were arrested in a DUI crash on Interstate 5.

According to the police, a 34-year-old California man driving a southbound semi-trailer on the freeway. Apparently, he wanted to take the Maytown rest area exit but missed it. He attempted to get to the exit ramp but over-corrected. As a result, the trailer jackknifed resting perpendicular while the tractor rested in a ditch facing north.

Moreover, a southbound mini-van driven by a 31-year-old Aberdeen man struck the right rear of the trailer.

One of the three mini-van’s passengers, a 31-year-old man, was thrown from the van. The paramedics rushed him and another passenger, a 27-year-old Elma woman, to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The mini-van driver and his third passenger, a 27-year-old Montesano man, fled on foot. The Thurston County Sheriff’s deputy later found them.

Similarly, the paramedics took the mini-van driver and Montesano man to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.

The authorities cited the Aberdeen man for possible DUI and vehicular assault charges. Also, they arrested the California man on suspicion of DUI.

There are plenty of ways to practice safe and defensive driving. One of these is to make sure we don’t drink and drive to avoid incidents like the DUI crash on Interstate 5.
