High-Speed Chase Ends with Newport Beach Fatal Crash on Old Newport Boulevard
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (September 21, 2020) – Sunday night, a passenger died in a single-vehicle crash on Old Newport Boulevard.
According to reports, at about 5:35 a.m., a driver led police on a high-speed pursuit on Goldenwest Street and Ellis Avenue. Then, they started the chase after a patrol officer found out that a black Honda Accord with two male occupants was stolen.
The authorities attempted to stop them but the driver drove south instead. He traveled on downtown Huntington Beach with a speed of around 100 mph. Afterward, when they reached Brookhurst Street, a police supervisor ordered to stop the chase because it’s posing danger to the officers and the public.
However, the Newport Beach police located the Accord minutes later. Furthermore, the vehicle had crashed on Old Newport Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway.
As a result, the passenger succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, the driver fled on foot but was later arrested, said Capt. Tim Martin of the Huntington Beach Police Department.
Responders administered treatment for the driver who suffered serious injuries. At this time, the authorities haven’t disclosed his identity and the pending charges due to his condition.
Thus, the authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Huntington Beach Police Department detectives at 714-536-5951 or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the families and friends affected by the loss of the victim of the single-vehicle crash on Old Newport Boulevard.
