Person Fatally Injured in Early Morning Collision near Armstrong Road
LODI, CA (July 25, 2018) – At least one person was killed early Wednesday morning following a rear-end crash on Highway 99.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly collision took place just before 5:30 AM. An overturned truck spilled its load on the highway, causing a major traffic backup near Armstrong Road.
A white car failed to observe the slowed traffic ahead and was unable to stop in time. Subsequently, the car slammed into the vehicle in front of it. The impact severely injured a passenger in the white car, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Their identity and city of residence were not immediately released.
Several lanes were temporarily shut down to make way for an investigation and clearing operations. Affected areas were later reopened shortly before 8:30 AM.
An investigation is ongoing to determine liability and the cause of the crash. Anyone with information regarding the deadly incident is asked to contact the authorities as soon as possible. No additional details have been provided to the public at this time.
