19-Year-Old Lashawn Winter Harvell Arrested in Interstate 5 Crash Injuring Juvenile

 
Tehama County, CA (April 16, 2021) – On April 3, a juvenile passenger was injured while police arrested 19-year-old Lashawn Winter Harvell of Stockton in a DUI crash on Interstate 5.
 
The incident took place at around 10:30 p.m. north of Red Bluff.
 
An officer tried to make a traffic violation stop on a grey Infiniti traveling south on the freeway.
 
However, the vehicle did not stop but accelerated in an apparent effort to flee from law enforcement.
 
The chase continued south with Tehama County sheriff’s deputies joining the pursuit near Gyle Road.
 
Moreover, the vehicle continued to flee at speeds reaching more than 120 mph.
 
The Infiniti attempted to pass another vehicle near Orland. Unfortunately, it rear-ended a 2004 Ford Explorer and went out of control.
 
As a result, the Infiniti went across the middle divider and to the northbound lanes of the freeway. The vehicle then went through a fence and struck a tree.
 
Harvell was able to get out of his vehicle and attempted to run away before the vehicle burst into flames. Luckily, authorities were able to catch her and took her into custody.
 
Once medically cleared, officers arrested and booked Harvell into the Tehama County Jail on $50,000 bail and suspicion of felony evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for safety and driving under the influence of any drug.
 
Authorities said a juvenile passenger in the Explorer was injured in the crash. They were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
