Motorcycle Passenger Injured in Fatal Collision on Interstate 8 [San Diego, CA]

San Diego, CA (April 29, 2024) – A 19-year-old female motorcycle passenger sustained injuries following a fatal collision on Interstate 8 Saturday afternoon.

It was about 3:30 p.m. when the collision happened west of the Rosecrans Street offramp.

CHP officers said a man driving a black Yamaha motorcycle and his passenger were on eastbound Interstate 8 when they rear-ended a Ford F-150 that was stopped in the #2 lane heavy traffic.

The investigators also said that the motorcyclist was traveling at an unknown rate of speed while splitting lanes when the collision happened.

As a result, the motorcycle driver and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle. 

Unfortunately, the rider was thrown at the back of the pickup truck and was declared deceased at the scene. His passenger was thrown on the road and was transported to the hospital with major injuries.

Troopers closed two lanes of the highway as they investigated the collision.

The Ford driver, a 59-year-old Murrieta man, remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.

A toxicology report is pending at the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office to rule out if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor for the motorcyclist.
