US 385 Rollover Crash Kills 2

Dallam County, TX (August 16, 2024) – 19-year-old Benjamin Lux and 29-year-old Camaja Ortiz, both Dalhart residents, were killed in a US 385 collision early Wednesday morning.

It was about 5:40 a.m. when a northbound 2004 Toyota Sequoia driven by 18-year-old Jose Quinilla, also of Dalhart, failed to drive in a single lane. The vehicle swerved off the roadway and drove into the east ditch.

Quinilla attempted to put the vehicle back into the road but over-corrected the steering wheel. The SUV rolled over several times.

His passengers, Benjamin Lux and Camaja Ortiz, were not wearing seat belts and were thrown from the vehicle.

DPS officials declared Lux and Ortiz dead at the crash scene while Quinilla was taken to an area area hospital with serious injuries.

Meanwhile, officers are still investigating the cause of the collision.
