PARADISE HILLS, CA (February 3, 2018) – A hit-and-run driver was arrested after losing control of his pickup truck and hitting a couple walking on Parkside Avenue and Beatrice Street at around 6:30 PM.
Authorities were alerted about the incident when a person called police and reported that gunshots had been fired and a vehicle had hit a home. Police could not verify if any gun had been fired, but they found a man pinned underneath the Dodge pickup truck at the 6400 block of Parkside Avenue.
The 67-year-old man was trapped under the truck and died at the scene while the 55-year-old woman sustained life-threatening injuries according to police reports. The 23-year-old driver fled from the scene on foot, but witnesses followed and informed officers about his location. The man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
Police confirmed that the pickup did not crash into a house. Their investigation revealed that the driver was eastbound on Parkside but missed a curve in the road and rolled onto the north sidewalk.
