18-Year-Old High School Student Critically Injured after Hit by Amtrak Train near Citrus Grove Lane
OXNARD, CA (April 6, 2018) – A Pacifica High School student was seriously injured when he was struck by an Amtrak train along North Oxnard Boulevard, early Friday evening.
The 18-year-old pedestrian was hit around 5:00 PM near Citrus Grove Lane. The train had just left the Oxnard station and was traveling northbound when the crash occurred. According to eyewitnesses, they saw the pedestrian walking southbound on the train tracks and directly towards the path of the oncoming train.
The man tried to jump out of the way of the train at the very last moment, but he was still hit.
The man reportedly suffered major and critical pelvis injuries and was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center by ambulance for treatment. Train tracks were closed between east Ventura and Oxnard for an unconfirmed amount of time after the crash, according to Amtrak.
Oxnard police also arrived at the scene to investigate. Anyone with more information is urged to call the Oxnard Police Department or Ventura County Crime Stoppers, (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
Accidents with trains can be very deadly, due to the size and weight of locomotives. Do not walk on the tracks, especially if you see one approaching. Always drive, bike, and walk carefully when near train tracks.
