Rider Dies after Crash with Car at Claremont and Hillegass Avenues
OAKLAND, CA (April 18, 2019) – A man was killed following a motorcycle accident late Thursday afternoon in Oakland.
The man has been identified by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau as Osmond Akbar, 26, of Oakland.
Akbar was riding his 2008 Yamaha R6 motorcycle when he crashed into a Honda Civic around 5:30 p.m. in the 6000 block of Claremont Avenue near Hillegass Avenue.
Responding firefighters rushed Akbar to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Honda sedan is a 62-year-old Berkeley woman. It is unknown if she was injured in the crash.
Claremont Avenue was closed for several hours while officers investigated the incident, causing traffic jams on nearby streets.
