Oscar Martinez Killed, Several Injured in Pedestrian Crash on 36th Street [Tucson, AZ]

Injuries Reported in Fatal Tucson Pedestrian Accident on 36th Street

 
TUCSON, AZ (September 10, 2020) – Sunday night, Oscar Martinez died, while several were injured in a pedestrian crash on 36th Street.
 
According to reports, Operations Division South officers responded to the 3200 block of W. 36th Street at about 9:30 p.m. They came to the scene after receiving a report of a serious injury collision involving several pedestrians.
 
When they arrived, Tucson Fire Department personnel treated four pedestrians and three occupants of a white 2019 Dodge Ram pickup.
Furthermore, a pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The authorities identified the victim as 42-year-old Oscar Zazueta Martinez. His family has been duly notified.
 
Police confirmed that the other pedestrians and occupants received treatment at the scene with non-life-threatening injuries.
 
After conducting an investigation, the traffic detectives determined that the Dodge Ram was speeding westbound on 36th Street. Then, the Ram pickup drove into the parking lot area at the dead-end of 36th Street.
 
Afterward, the vehicle struck Martinez and the group of pedestrians standing next to a parked vehicle on the passenger side. Then, the vehicle drove west over large boulders. The vehicle drove into the desert — west of the parking area until the Ram pickup overturned and landed on its roof.
 
The evidence revealed that the Ram’s brakes were functioning properly. Thus, speeding played a role in the crash.
 
Meanwhile, a DUI officer confirmed that the driver didn’t suffer from impairment during the crash.
 
At this time, the authorities haven’t issued charges or citations. The crash remains under investigation.
