Female Passenger Dies after Pickup Truck Crashes into Big Big on 5 Freeway in Orange
ORANGE, CA (April 9, 2019) – A woman was killed following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Orange, CHP officials said.
The fatal crash happened around 8:26 a.m. on southbound 5 Freeway, just North of 22 Freeway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a black pickup truck was traveling northbound on 22 Freeway at a high rate of speed, when it slammed into the bed of a tow truck. The vehicle became lodged underneath the flatbed part of the trailer.
A female passenger in the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released pending notification of her family members.
The pickup truck’s male driver was hospitalized in critical condition.
A SigAlert was issued on the first and HOV lanes until around 11:30 a.m.
The incident is still under investigation.
