Car Crashes into Palm Tree on 60 Freeway in Ontario Killing 2 People
ONTARIO, CA (December 29, 2018) – A Colton man and a Moreno Valley woman were killed following a car accident Saturday evening in Ontario.
The fatal crash happened around 8:40 p.m. on westbound 60 Freeway near Archibald Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a white 1999 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling westbound on the freeway at 80 mph, when it made a sudden lane change. It then went airborne and collided with a roadside palm tree that was growing in the descending dirt embankment.
The car landed on its wheels at the bottom of the embankment.
The 25-year-old man, who was behind the wheel, was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His 25-year-old female passenger was also killed in the accident. They were not wearing their seat belts.
Both victims were not fully identified by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office Sunday afternoon, pending notification of their family members.
Further investigation of this incident is underway.
