Unidentified Driver Flees after Hitting and Killing Elderly Woman from Ontario
ONTARIO, CA (January 2, 2018) – An 85-year-old woman was hit and killed while crossing the Holt Boulevard and Virginia Avenue intersection on Tuesday night.
The Ontario woman was crossing the dark and busy intersection with her walker around 7:52 PM. A car crashed into her and fled from the scene. Emergency ambulances and police were called. The elderly victim died on the way to the hospital because of bodily injuries.
No one saw the moment when the elderly pedestrian was struck. Both the car and driver in the hit-and-run accident remain unidentified, with ongoing investigation by the police. Only the woman’s walker and pieces of the unknown car remained on the busy street after the fatal crash.
Police think that she may have been living in a group home or renting a room from someone nearby the scene of the incident. Officials are currently reviewing video footage from the Social Security office across the street. There is hope of the hit-and-run accident being caught on tape.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released. The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office continues to try and locate the Ontario woman’s family members.
