Rollover Crash on 40 Freeway at Kelbaker Road Kills 1 and Injures 2
BARSTOW, CA (December 25, 2019) – A man died in a Christmas Day rollover crash in Barstow, CHP officials said.
The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on 40 Freeway, just west of Kelbaker Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 1999 GMC Suburban was traveling eastbound on the freeway when it lost control and overturned.
As the SUV overturned, the driver suffered major head injuries and died on scene. The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office identified him as Onesimo Cervantes, 65, of Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, a 34-year-old woman who was a passenger in the SUV suffered moderate head injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to Needles hospital.
The second passenger, a 65-year-old woman, was airlifted to UMC Las Vegas with lower back injuries, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
CHP officials said intoxication is not a suspected factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
