Big Rig Involved in Fatal Car Accident in Yolo County
YOLO COUNTY, CA ( September 19, 2019) – One person was killed in a car crash on the 5 Freeway Thursday morning.
Authorities reported the accident occurred at about 2:15 AM on the freeway off ramp near Woodland.
Per reports, a car and an 18-wheeler were involved in the collision. However, the events leading up are currently unclear.
Due to the incident, the truck sustained a flat tire and punctured fuel tank. Officials are trying to determine if the big rig was involved in the initial crash or sustained damages from the debris. Also, the car ended up engulfed in flames. As a result of the incident, the truck spilled 70-80 gallons of fuel.
Furthermore, the southbound lanes of the freeway were closed for a period of time. Traffic was diverted onto County Road. They have since been reopened.
In addition, CHP and the Yolo County Sheriff’s Department have launched a criminal investigation. There has been no further information released at this time as investigations continue.
