18-Wheeler Involved in Redding Big Rig Crash on 5 Freeway
REDDING, CA (April 26, 2019) – One person was critically injured in a big rig crash on 5 Freeway Friday morning.
Officials reported the accident around 7:25 AM on the southbound 5 Freeway on-ramp near Gilman Road.
The California Highway Patrol stated that a Jeep Cherokee collided with an 18-wheeler for unknown reasons. As a result, the Jeep sustained major front end damage. The Department of Forestry and Fire Protection assisted CHP in the crash. However, it is unknown the exact number of people involved.
However, one person was reportedly trapped in the vehicle. A helicopter was requested to transport all victims to a nearby hospital for further medical evaluation. However, there has been no update on their condition.
Due to the collision, two lanes were blocked for a period of time which backed up traffic for miles. There has been no further information released regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident. In addition, an investigation continues.
