5 Vehicles Involved in Deadly Fiery Crash on Highway 101 in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (August 8, 2019) – One person was killed and two were hospitalized following a fiery multi-vehicle crash on Highway 101 early Thursdsay morning in south San Jose.
The crash happened around 3:29 a.m., on northbound Highway 101 just north of Highway 85 and Bailey Avenue.
According to the CHP, at least five vehicles were involved.
It started when one vehicle hit the center divider. The second car, a Ford Fusion, hit the first car and landed on its roof in the middle of the highway. A Toyota Yaris, a Toyota Tacoma and a Subaru WRX then also became involved.
The events leading up are currently unclear. However, all five vehicles caught fire and were destroyed.
The unidentified driver of the first vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the Ford sedan and the Subaru were injured and later hospitalized.
Only one of the freeway lanes was open for almost five hours. However, all lanes were eventually reopened by 8:15 a.m.
Investigators are asking any witnesses who can help them piece together what happened to give them a call.
