One Dead, Jacob Dahlem Arrested in Cottonwood DUI Collision
COTTONWOOD, CA (December 11, 2018) – A Whitmore resident sustained fatal injuries after a DUI crash on Sunday, December 9.
According to the California Highway Patrol, 22-year-old Jacob Dahlem, of Fresno was driving his 2012 Mazda southbound on 5 Freeway at about 2:55 a.m. when he exited at the South Main Street exit.
Dahlem was driving the Mazda too fast and was unable to prevent crashing with a 1986 Toyota pick-up truck and struck the left rear of the truck, causing it to lose control and crash into a guardrail.
The impact of the incident caused the driver of the Toyota to be ejected from the vehicle. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to CHP, Dahlem was driving while intoxicated. He was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail.
The identity of the driver of the Toyota is being withheld pending notification of loved ones.
