Late Evening Crash Involving Semi-Truck on Highway 99 Kills One
BAKERSFIELD, CA (October 22, 2019) – One person was killed following a collision involving a semi-truck late Tuesday evening in Bakersfield.
The crash happened around 10:50 p.m., on southbound Highway 99 under the Palm Street overpass.
According to the CHP, the semi-truck was traveling in the slow lane when the driver began to slow down as they approached a construction closure.
A box truck traveling behind collided with the semi as it slowed, the CHP said.
A passenger in the box truck suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Information on the victim’s identity was not immediately available.
The crash blocked two of the three southbound lanes of the highway.
CHP officials are still investigating the cause of the crash and liability.
