Semi Truck Rear-Ends Car on Highway 99 in Bakersfield, Fatality Report
BAKERSFIELD, CA (JUNE 21, 2019) – At least one person was killed following a rear-end crash on Highway 99, near South Union Avenue.
The crash happened just after 12:00 a.m., on the southbound lanes of Highway 99. Dispatchers arrived near South Union Avenue shortly after.
According to reports, a black Kia sedan and a semi-truck were involved in the collision. The Kia was allegedly rear-ended by the semi, eventually forcing the vehicle off the roadway.
The Kern County Coroner was called to the scene due to the extent of injuries. They later confirmed at least one fatality as a result of the crash. The identity of the victim was not immediately available pending family notification.
The back of the sedan was also destroyed as a result of the impact. The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time while crews worked to clear the wreckage. However, the roadway has since reopened.
It is still currently unknown if speed or intoxication was a factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
