Manteca Fatal Crash on Highway 120
MANTECA, CA (June 27, 2019) – One person died following a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 120 at South Main Street Thursday afternoon.
The crash happened just before 1:00 p.m. on Highway 120 at South Main Street overpass. According to preliminary reports, a Hyundai Elantra was on the left lane traveling at an unknown speed when it crossed into the right lane and reached stopped traffic.
A box truck behind the Elantra rear-ended the sedan. The impact pushed the Elantra into the back of a stopped big rig.
As a result, the sole occupant of the Elandra suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim was not immediately available.
Authorities took another person to a hospital with unspecified injuries. In addition, two vehicles sustained damage while trying to avoid the collision.
The highway was closed for about three hours while crews worked on the scene.
The CHP says neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
