Big Rig and Sedan Collide Head-On on Ramona Expressway Leaving One Dead
SAN JACINTO, CA (August 10, 2019) – One person was killed following a head-on crash on Ramona Expressway, early Saturday morning in San Jacinto.
The crash took place at 4:10 a.m., on Ramona Expressway just east of Bridge Street. Dispatchers arrived to the area shortly after.
CHP, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire and Riverside County Sheriff’s Departments, along with other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the scene.
State officials found a damaged M&H Transport Inc. tractor-trailer big-rig disabled in the middle of the roadway. A heavily damaged white sedan was also located on its roof about 100 yards away, in a field adjacent the road.
Firefighters performed an extensive extrication to remove the driver of the sedan trapped inside the mangled vehicle.
The driver was later pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the impact.
Furthermore, the driver of the big-rig was evaluated by paramedics at the scene but remained uninjured and declined further treatment.
As their investigation was underway, officials reported that debris spread across 200 yards of the roadway, and that despite the extensive wreckage, vehicles were continuing to drive through the area at high speeds.
Officials called for the full closure of Ramona Expressway in both directions while they investigated the tragic crash.
