Car Catches Fire on Highway 24 in Orinda Killing One
ORINDA, CA (August 1, 2019) – One person was killed following a fiery crash Thursday evening in Orinda, authorities said.
The crash happened just before 9:00 p.m. on westbound Highway 24 at St. Stephens Drive on-ramp. According to the California Highway Patrol, a black sedan went off the highway into the bushes, where it caught fire.
The car was fully engulfed in flames when officers arrived. One occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim once family members are notified.
First responders blocked the fourth and fifth westbound lanes while they investigated the incident.
