Pickup Truck and Big Rig Involved in Deadly Fiery Crash on Highway 198 in Hanford
HANFORD, CA (August 4, 2019) – One person was killed following a fiery crash Sunday evening in Hanford.
The crash happened around 9:36 p.m. along the eastbound lanes of Highway 198 at 17th Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a pickup truck was traveling westbound on Highway 198 when for unknown reasons, it ended up in the eastbound lanes.
The big rig smashed straight into the truck and pushed it back into the westbound lanes as both vehicles collided into a telephone pole and caught fire.
First responders pronounced the pickup truck driver dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending family notification.
The big rig driver was unharmed.
Power lines are down in the area following the tragic crash.
It is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. Authorities are looking further into the incident.
