Driver Dies after Vehicle Catches Fire on 8 Freeway in La Mesa
LA MESA, CA (January 20, 2020) – One person was killed following a fiery crash Monday morning in La Mesa, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 5:05 a.m. on eastbound 8 Freeway, just west of Spring Street.
CHP officials said a vehicle lost control and crashed into a pole off the freeway. It then became fully engulfed in flames.
The vehicle’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP reported. The identity of the deceased was not immediately available.
Authorities shut down the right lane of 8 Freeway near Spring Street for the crash investigation and clean up.
