Fiery Crash on Eureka Way in Redding Kills 1 and Injures 3
REDDING, CA (November 6, 2019) – One person was killed following a fiery crash Wednesday evening in Redding, CHP officials said.
The crash happened just after 8:00 p.m. on Eureka Way, also known as Highway 299, at Newfound Way.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a deputy was traveling westbound on Eureka Way while responding to a call in the Rock Creek area. A deer walked into the roadway and the deputy swerved and hit the deer.
The deputy’s vehicle then struck another car that was heading eastbound on Highway 299. The impact caused the second vehicle to burst into flames. The deputy’s vehicle went off the roadway.
One of the three people inside the burning car died at the scene. The two others suffered moderate to major injuries.
Officials say the deputy was transported to Mercy Medical in Redding for treatment of unspecified injuries.
CalTrans District 2 closed the Eureka Way approximately 2.5 miles west from Shasta due to the deadly crash.
