Driver Dies after SUV Crashes into Fence and Catches Fire on Avenue 7 in Madera
MADERA, CA (September 20, 2019) – One person was killed following a fiery crash Friday afternoon in Madera County, CHP officials said.
The crash happened around 2:25 p.m. at the intersection of Avenue 7 and Road 35.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Suzuki Grand Vitara was traveling eastbound on Avenue 7 near Road 35 when it lost control. The SUV then crashed into a fence and went across a field near railroad tracks where it caught fire.
The unidentified driver was partially ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Officers say the driver was traveling fast, but unsure of the speed.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
