Cement Truck and Big Rig Involved in Deadly Crash on Highway 25 in Gilroy
GILROY, CA (October 15, 2019) – One person died after a cement truck collided with a big rig Tuesday morning in Gilroy, CHP officials said.
The crash happened around 7:35 a.m. on Highway 25 near Bolsa Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the big rig was exiting a business to make a left-hand turn onto northbound Highway 25 in bad weather conditions.
The driver of the cement mixer was traveling southbound on the highway at about 55 mph and did not make an attempt to stop. The cement truck collided with the big rig.
As a result, the cement truck driver died at the scene. The deceased was only described as a San Juan Bautista resident.
The stretch of Highway 25 and Bolsa Road was closed for 3 or 4 hours while CHP continues to investigate and clear the scene. Caltrans cleared the fluids from the roadway.
Authorities said drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
